Fudgie Brownies

Makes 16 squares


Fudge icing and walnuts on chocolate squares, just heaven

  • 4 oz. (100g) soft margarine
  • 4 oz. (100g) caster sugar
  • 4 oz. (100g) self-raising flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 4 oz. (100g) dark chocolate, melted
  • 2 oz. (50g) soft brown sugar
  • 2 oz. (50g) walnuts, roughly chopped
  • three and a half ounces (90g) hard margarine
  • 4 tablespoons drinking chocolate powder
  • 9 oz. (250g) icing sugar, sifted
  • 2 tablespoons of milk

    Cooking Instructions:
    1. Beat together the soft margarine, caster sugar, beaten eggs, self-raising flour and baking powder till smooth
    2. Add the chocolate, nuts and soft brown sugar
    3. Spread into a greased lined 8 inch (20 cm) square tin
    4. Bake in a pre-heated 350F, Gas Mark 4, 180C oven for 35-40 minutes
    5. Make icing: melt the hard margarine with chocolate powder in a pan
    6. Boil for half a minute then stir in icing sugar and milk
    7. Beat until it thickens
    8. Cool the cake in the tin for a few minutes before turning out on a wire rack
    9. Spread the top with icing, cool, then cut into squares
